What's HTML?

HTML is short for Hyper Text Markup Language. It's the programming language used to create web pages.

There are many HTML editors, each having value in its own right.  Popular HTML editors include:

  • Cold Fusion Studio and Homesite from Allaire (now Macromedia).
  • Dreamweaver, also from Macromedia.
  • Front Page and Notepad, from Microsoft.

Why would you need an editor?

Except for Notepad, most HTML editors have built-in functions that make programming in HTML much faster.

Things like user-created code snippets, database utilities, built-in graphics, and code verification may be included.

The arguments for or against each editor would exceed the scope of this website.

Suffice it to say that your best option is to try out several of the free trial versions and choose the editor that's right for you.
